LANI RAMSEY is a multi media textile artist practicing in the Fleurieu Peninsula.
A hand spinner of fibres- be it cellulose- bamboo, flax, cotton, or protein-wool, llama, alpaca, silk; on a drop spindle, wheel, charkha - and now in modern era, an E-spinner (electric).
She began this creative journey more than 30 years ago. Her adolescence was spent knitting and sewing, twenties refining those skills as a hobby farmer and nurse, outside of Vancouver , B.C, Canada; adding in spinning, crocheting, felting, and dyeing through her local weavers and spinners guild to keep her curiosity. Japanese style weaving was a delightful discovery that began in 2018!
Weaving of hypnotic tales-(she holds a diploma of Hypnosis, and counselling - 2019)- she began taking texture, colour and other elements to make one of a kind creations. This two shaft style has allowed a freedom of creativity and meditative joy.
She uses Art as Therapy, (and you can too) mainly her own- to learn and teach about the environment around her- be it earth pigments, plant dyes and uses fibres to absorb these Universal truths. Previously ‘Lofty Valley Artisan’, she began her journey of selling her items at their winery, Lofty Valley Estate Wines in Ashton, Adelaide Hills with her husband Brian.
She has found her Sea Change post child rearing, health career and grape growing to reside currently in the Fleurieu Peninsula, South Australia.
